At the heart of the San Marcos Campus, the Albert B. Alkek Library is a go-to place for students to study, collaborate, and get research help—supported by strong collections, modern technology, and a variety of spaces for different learning styles. The library is open year-round, with early-morning and late-night hours during the fall and spring semesters. Online services and resources are also available through the University Libraries website (library.txst.edu).

Inside Alkek Library you’ll find standout collections such as The Wittliff Collections (the Southwestern Writers Collection, the Southwestern and Mexican Photography Collection, and the Texas Music Collection) and Special Collections & Archives. The library is also a selective depository for federal government documents. As a member of the Texas Digital Library, the library’s Research and Scholarship Repository (digital.library.txstate.edu/) includes unique Texas State materials, including scholarly works authored by university faculty, students, and staff. A separate repository provides Digital Collections from The Wittliff and Special Collections & University Archives (dc.library.txstate.edu).

Stay connected with wireless access throughout Alkek Library. Students can check out laptops for use in the building, and you’ll find workstations, laser printers, and scanners on every floor.

On the first floor, Alkek One brings creative technology within reach for students in every major. You can explore virtual, augmented, and mixed realities in the Immersion Studio; build and prototype in MakerSpace; design in 2D and 3D in DesignSpace; and record and edit projects in the YouStar Studios. The floor also includes the Virtual Production Studio, part of the Alkek Laboratory for Immerserve Arts and Sciences (ALIAS).

For graduate students, Alkek Library offers a dedicated Graduate Commons, plus additional learning, instruction, and research spaces and services across seven stories.

If you need a book or article that Texas State doesn’t have, the library can often get it for you through cooperative borrowing agreements. Use Interlibrary Loan to request materials from libraries across the country—and sometimes internationally.
