The Department of Computer Science at Texas State is the hub of computing related education and research activities on the campus.
The department is on a mission to advance the knowledge of computer science and technology through education, research, and service for the betterment of society.
The department is a doctoral-granting department, and the faculty are actively pursuing research in six broad areas of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Engineering, High Performance Computing, Computer Systems and Engineering, Human-Centered Computing, Networks, Security and Cyber-Physical Systems. The faculty's research has been supported by federal and state agencies such as NSF, NIST, DoD, DoE, PNNL, and TxDOT and industry such as, Semiconductor Research Consortium, IBM, Intel, NVidia, Google, Meta, Cisco, AMD, SK hynix, and Emerson. Our faculty members have obtained prestigious awards such as the PECASE Award, NSF CAREER Awards, DoE Early Career award, IBM Faculty Fellowship, Mata Faculty Research Award, and Google Faculty Research Awards.
Computer science students take courses in a forward-looking curriculum taught by the department's faculty members who are accessible, nurturing, and eager to engage students in learning and research. Students have access to an array of hardware, system software, and applications in our first-class computing laboratories.
Individuals with limited computer science background may apply for “non-degree seeking student” admission through The Graduate College to prepare for graduate study in computer science. Please refer to the “Non-Degree-Seeking Applicants” section of this catalog.
